Meados do Século XX – Coleção do Museu do Traje

The Sargaceiros (seaweed harvesters) costumes from Castelo do Neiva, Chafé, and Vila Nova de Anha was much more than a garment, which had the primary function of protecting the body; it is undoubtedly one of the most emblematic Work Costumes of the Portuguese people.

The sargaceiros used it in harvesting the seaweed and was composed of a coat, also known as branqueta. They also wore a sueste (hat) made of clothcrucible soaked in linseed oil and a leather belt.
