Vila Nova de Anha

About the southern coast of the municipality of Viana do Castelo, Baldaque da Silva mentions three seaweed harbours, “Castelo de Neiva, Moinho do Bispo and Anha”. However, when this author describes the number of people and boats dedicated to sea work in each harbour, he does not include data for Anha. However, as defined by Baldaque da Silva, in addition to the inclusion of Anha as one of the “main harbours for seaweed harvesting” on the coast of Viana, he also mentions that the people of Anha also harvested seaweed on the northern coast of this municipality, especially in the parish of Areosa. Finally, we must consider that in this period, and until 1985, the parish of Vila Nova de Anha included in its administration the current parish of Chafé.
