Seaweed and Fishing

Chafé – Amorosa

Between the rivers Lima and Neiva, Baldaque da Silva describes a seaweed harbour named “Moinho do Bispo” (Bishop’s Mill). This seaweed harbour, defined by Ernesto Veiga de Oliveira, Fernando Galhano and Benjamim Pereira, was where Amorosa’s future location appeared from the mid-19th century. Furthermore, these same authors add that the most permanent aspect of this place was initiated by Francisco Arêdes Novo, a native of Castelo do Neiva (Veiga de Oliveira, Galhano and Pereira, 1975).
