Carreço

Antonio Arthur Baldaque da Silva divided the coast of the parish of Carreço into three areas, Paçô, Fornelos and Fonte do Mar. This division is mainly due to the location of the seaweed exploitation points, the entrance of vessels and the sheds/storage houses where they kept the fishing nets. Baldaque da Silva describes the location of these three seaweed “harbours” in the parish of Carreço and the referred sheds for shelter (Baldaque da Silva, 1892). Regarding the presence of fishgarths in Carreço, Ivone Baptista de Magalhães and João Paulo Baptista have done remarkable work recording the existence of 31 “fishgarths” along the coast of this parish (Magalhães and Baptista, 2006).
