Seaweed and Fishing

Chafé – Amorosa

In the current parish of Chafé, in the place called Amorosa, there were several sheds to support the work of the sea. However, as previously described for Castelo do Neiva, in Amorosa, the sheds used to shelter the tools and boats were eventually converted into dwellings for the families who worked at sea (Veiga de Oliveira, Galhano and Pereira, 1975).

However, even when these buildings were exclusively used for sea works, they differed in construction from the sheds in the neighbouring parish, structurally more similar to the ones in Areosa and Carreço. This is given that the main structure was executed in stone (Veiga de Oliveira, Galhano and Pereira, 1975).
