Sea Ports / Harbours
Previously we described the seaweed harbours on the coast of Viana do Castelo. At these places, on the beach and at sea, in rafts, boats and wooden open boats called maceiras, the rural population of this municipality dedicated themselves to harvesting seaweed. Although, as previously mentioned, these people also used their boats for fishing in the sea. Nevertheless, we must distinguish what kind of harbours existed in the past in these places by the sea because, excluding the different harbours by the Lima river, there were only harbours for sea boats in the parish of Monserrate.
